how many roosters

Hello all,

We have 10 chickens, (9 hens and 1 rooster) and one of our hens has gone broody. She is currently laying on 9 eggs. We are planning on keeping all hens that hatch. They will be free ranging on our farm along with next doors' flock which contain around 6 hens and a rooster. We would like to keep some of the roosters that hatch and were wondering how many you think we could keep along with the hens on the farm without them fighting too bad and without the hens getting abused.

Difficult to give a hard and fast answer as much will depend upon the temperment of the roosters involved. Keep what you want, and if problems present then cull the trouble makers.

It really depends on how much space they will have, their temperament, whether they have favorite hens etc.

okay, thanks a lot, we have about 8 or so acres of garden, farm yard and grass that they will be able to roam on.

Where do they stay at night?

Ours stay in a converted wendy house/ shed but the rooster goes in a compartment at night to stop him from crowing too early in the morning.
