How many SqFt for 4 hens?

Excellent advice. I will put them in shade with vented window/shutters. Where do you find chickens older than day old chicks?
I prefer to purchase young egg layers but realize they don't ship well. Do local tractor supply/seed stores carry them in the spring?

Meyer Hatchery carries started pullets and will ship them. I've only ordered day-old chicks from them, so I can't speak to the potential risks of shipping started pullets. They're more expensive than day-old chicks, but this could balance out once you factor in the cost of raising them to laying age (5-6 months old).
