We had Bantams several years ago and planning on building a Woods coop with a run so they can go out any time they want. My question is, what do they do with heavy snow? I don't want them to stay in the coop all the time, I live in south central Pa. and it happens some winters around here. I also have Miniature Dachshunds that use a dog door and have a large run. There can be some major issues (like preferring the house instead of going out) but they usually just plow through it or go down the ramp and stop since it's protected by the house and not as deep. What do chickens do? Dumb question?
We have 2 acres and would love to free range, but our neighbors just lost several to some type of critter attack, plus other neighbors let their dogs run free as well.
