I have a feeder half full suspended off the ground with Purina Layena they can have when they want. I refill it every afternoon but it never is completely empty. Plus, my girls receive apple, oats, and fresh greens as treats daily.

I have 2 feeders I keep food in them all time let them eat whenever they need to plus let them free range most days

i havent been able to let mine range in a while. this weather is getting use all down. right now we have about 7 in. on the ground and some /most of my chickens are not that tall. i have been making them food of oats, cornmeal, eggs, little bit of honey, spinich, apple. cook it in the microwave. they eat a BIG bowl full.

Yes...mine always have access to feed ...I supplement greens and protien such as spinach or cooked brocoli for greens and left over meat for protien. I throw out a couple of hand fulls of 3 grain scratch around the yard and maybe some BOSS to keep them busy

Wats BOSS?

Yes the feed bill does go way down in the summer, I feed in the evenings as they scratch around free range all day and they have scraps also to help them keep warm I feed their 3 way scratch in the evening time as the digestion process raises their BMR (basal metabolic rate). In the spring/summer I go to the farmers market and the produce that they can't sell I bring home to my chickens. It may be just bruised or one water melon had a puncture hole in one end, it was beautiful and the girls sure did enjoy it. I don't supplement with calcium or oyster shell etc because they get good nutrition and lay wonderfully. Tho I do have a couple of renegade hens that lay in their own special spot which they think is hidden but my dog is the egg eater, if I don't make it out there in time.

Check out a Facebook page called Becky Broiler. I think either Becky or one of the other hens has a twisted beak and can give you great advice on how they have treated it.
