I want to put in my order for my first chicks today. I originally said I wanted to start with 6, then it was 12 and now I am up to 14! I didn’t realize how many gorgeous breeds there are! I want them all! I was wondering if I should get a roo now or wait to introduce a roo? Also do you think 14 are too many to start out with since this will be my first chick experience. Thanks!

Personally, I would NOT order a roo. Those boys seem to pop up even when people have ordered pullets exclusively. Just have fun, order a bunch, build your coop & run, The fun begins when your fluffy-butt babies arrive. You'll be here, posting pictures...PLEASE! And we'll try to help you determine who's HE or SHE

BEST OF LUCK TO YOU!!!!!!!!!

If you are ordering from a hatchery as I did, you could order 25 and then put up a craigslist ad to sell off about 10 or so of them to get down to your number. This will help offset the cost of the order, plus get you in touch with some locals that are into chickens.

Ordering roo's.... If you want a specific type of roo, order him, otherwise, just order hens, likely one will be a roo anyway.

GL!! HF!!!

BTW, if you have space, 14 will be great for your first experience.
