So I'm looking at a 12ft long x 5ft wide x 8 ft tall coop (building) and I am so confused on how many chickens I can put in there?! They free range all day long they only go in the coop to sleep and lay eggs. When it is snowing or raining they go under the coop (its raised) or under my pool deck or the swing set towers. The coop has one of those steel nesting boxes that has 15 nets but I closed off 5 of them. How many do y'all think I could happily make fit in there?

Sixty sq. ft. indoors, and standard sized birds? Be conservative and think twelve. There will be times when they are locked in, because of predator attacks, or snow cover, so things will be less stressful that way.
Breed types matter too; red sex-links and hatchery RIRs are more aggressive in the flock, and need more space. Leaving them out of the mix isn't a bad idea anyway.:old
Fifteen would be the maximum, IMO.
