I have an 8 by 8 coop and my Dominiques will be free range so how many should I get? I know the rule is 3 sq ft per bird but where they are out can I fit more?

It's better to have too much room than not enough...4sq feet / bird minimum, and that's IF they have 24/7 access to a run or outside. In KY, I assume you get some pretty nasty winters? In which case, you need a minimum of 10 sq ft/bird for when they have to be locked up, so that leaves you with 6 birds.
