how may hens per rooster?

I hope someone here can answer this question for me. How many hens does rooster need? I keep heard from different people told me that 10 or 12 hens for one rooster. well which one its't?

I do think it's like 10-12

Is isn't gonna matter if you have under 12 or 10 just any more then that you would need another roo~ To little they might get beat up.
