Hey my brother in law brought me a baby fantail that needed hand feeding. The parents got killed by his cat. I've handfed before, but it was a while back. so how often and how much do I feed him? Don't I have to wait until his entire crop is empty first before feeding him?

feed him till his crop is full. Not full until its hard just full... lol Feed it when ever it gets empty for sure. It will let you no when its hungry for sure lol

"How often" depends on the bird really, so it's hard to say. As for "how much", feed him until he pauses for a second. When he's hungry he'll keep eating; if he has time to take a break and relax then he's not hungry anymore and you should stop!

It's like when I feed the birds in my loft: I call them in and their food is in the troughs. The second one of them goes for water, I remove all the feed from the loft. This way if any birds are still slightly hungry then they'll come in to feed faster the next time, plus they'll all have eaten enough.

Are the feathers under the wing opened up yet? It looks like others have already given you advice on feeding. But yes, do not feed again until it has emptied.
