Well,
We've seen some pretty nasty flooding in these parts--N. IL. but the jump in gas and feed is hair splitting.

I paid $38 this week at the local granary (3 blocks away) for 2 bags of chick mash and 1 bag of egg layer.

I searched Farm and Fleet prices (15 min. drive): the starter/grower is $11.49 and the chicken layer is $10.99 and the meat producer is $11.99. So I would have saved $4 but then there's the drive and the gas and 2 little girls who like the granary better...kittens...

Gas: somewhere abouts $4.09 currently--it's gone down.

me,

Organic layer mash is now $21 and change. I think that's 44lb size.

I also buy sunflower seeds -- I think 50lb bags. It went from $19.99 to $38.99.

I think it was about a month, wendy. I was so shocked that I thought it was a mistake and needless to say I didn't buy any. I bought some elsewhere, but it wasn't that much cheaper.

I found this exlanation about sunflower seed costs:

"the price of [sunflower seed] is being driven up by the anti-trans-fat movement and the growing use of seeds in ethanol-based fuels."

Double-whamy I guess.

50# layer @ walmart $10
50# scratch @ walmart $10
50# grains @ Big R $9
50# scratch @ Big R $10
50# layer @ Big R $12
50# starter @ Big R $13
50# meat @ Big R $15
50# game @ Big R $18

So.... If I'm going to walmart anyway (it's about 10 miles round trip out of my normal path) I get feed there. If I'm not going to walmart I get the feed at Big R as it is right on my path home.
