The title says it all, what are you charging for eggs? The chickens have picked back up finally and we got 13 eggs today, with 9 dozen in the refrigerator. The local eggs at Walmart are $4.97 for the great value dozen white eggs. Brown eggs are $5.18. I've always just charged $4 a dozen in the past, but should I up my prices? I know everyone I'm selling to well, and I don't want to lose any customers. I don't want to be undercutting myself either though.
Fresh dozen from yesterday and today.

If you sold them for $4, then I'd keep selling them for that. I sell mine for $3.50 a dozen, and the person I sell them to sells them for $4 and she runs a business. (She charges me .50 a dozen to sell them, that's why I get what I get.)

MGG, your eggs are beautiful! I assume that there was a time when the price of eggs in the store was less than $4/dozen and your customers were pleased to pay more for your local, colorful eggs.
I think that you would be perfectly justified in raising your price to $4.50, considering that your eggs likely have those beautiful colorful yokes and you care for your hens, other things that matter to buyers. Your eggs would still be less than the Wal-Mart eggs.

Brown “free range” farm eggs are $7 to $9 a dozen at my local grocery stores. People are selling home grown free range like yours for $14/dz. at farmers markets and country stores. Pretty “Martha Stewart” Eggs are absolutely worth more! Especially at Easter. (I don’t sell my eggs. I only have about 2 dozen extra eggs per week. What we don’t eat at home, we give away to family and friends. We never have enough for everyone we love. We need more chickens! Lol.)

Oh cool! Thanks! I need to find someone to sell them for me like that. Sounds like a great setup!

Thank you! That's exactly what I was wondering. Maybe if I get any new customers I'll just tell them $4.50. I hate to change it on my long time buyers. We'll see, I might just keep it at $4. I guess it depends on if feed costs go up.

Wow, that's pricey! Where about do you live?
You always need more chickens! :lau
We just got 17 new baby chicks in addition to all of our older girls so I think we'll have a lot to sell. Even got the few birds I was missing to have all egg colors. I can't wait for their eggs this fall!
