How much are you spending monthly to heat your coop up a bit?

So far, only paying whatever a hundred watt heated waterer costs to run. Otherwise nothing here in Oxford County, Maine.

Maybe it's the small size of the coop or maybe it's the hardiness of the Chantecler breed, but the birds have been fine without supplemental heat.

My coop is not heated or insulated. It has a huge vent opening at the top that blows air through to a smaller opening in the other side. I have a bulb over the waterer to keep it from freezing and that's it. My roosters have some frostbite on thier combs, but adding heat will kill them faster than frostbite will. Other than that my birds are healthy and not showing any sign of distress. Our temps get very low here in Canada. I have barred rocks.
