How much are you suppossed to feed a chicken everyday?

I have been just refilling their feeder whenever I see it getting low. Feed prices are getting high and theyre eating a ton! I would love to cut back and feel as if I am already feeding them more then they really need. How much feed (cups) do you think I need to give 7 chickens everyday?

I personally free feed my girls . They regulate themselves pretty well. They also get out just about every day to free range in the barn yard area and garden and they get lots of kitchen and garden scraps. My 23 layers go through about 100 lbs of feed a month.

I just fill it up every second day, and I put some grass in the run, and every once in a while, I will let them out to free range.

In my opinion it is not a good idea to ration their food. Unlike most of us they stop eating when they are full. Mine have access to food 24-7. They will regulate their food. You can save some money by giving them scraps or free range them a few hours a day. I let mine out in the late afternoon that way they don't wander too far from home.
