if there is any way you can rip out and replace what the mold is on, that would be far better; especially if it is wood.
You can't really kill mold; all you can do is remove visible mold temporarily.
If you are going to try to remove the visible mold, be very, very careful -- mold releases spores and mycotoxins as it dies (some of the most deadly toxins in the world). The spores and toxins can be deadly in some circumstances if breathed into the lungs.
It is strongly recommended that you wear a real gas-mask when doing this kind of work.
