I have two arc coops I built one is 4'x8'x4' with run on bottom coop on top with 2 nest boxes and 7 foot long roost and the other is same size with coop on one side run on the other with 2 nest boxes and 7 feet of roost. Now my question is I'm gonna free range all the time except for at night to roost how many chickens can I have with these coops?

hi, i have heard a min. of 3 square ft. for large chickens and 3 for bantam size. even though you free range there will be bad weather days where they will be forced to stay in and it takes a lot more cleaning if they are too crowded.

two for bantam i messed up!

Need to think about having to confine birds in coop for long periods due to weather, but also predator problems.
Minimum 4 sqft coop and 10 sqft run for each bird is a pretty good rule of thumb most often recommended here at BYC.

I hunt all my predators and I live in VA so we don't have that severe of weather but thanks for reply guys helps alot
