How much DE do I use on Deep Litter?

I am new to chicken raising. I just wandered into your topic about DE. Sounds like a wonderful product. Is this something I can get at TSC or does it have to be ordered online?

My chicks and ducks are 2 weeks old and still inside the coop. Would love something to keep the flies and bugs to a minimum. Does DE do anything keep away mosquitos?

Even if you spread your de out - the chickens are gonna scratch around..... so I don't bother... I throw in what amounts to cup fulls all over... and let the chickens do the rest of the work..... I had a dirt floor coop - so they're ALWAYS digging around.
There is no measuring........ I mean you don't want to put a 50 pound bag into a 4x6 coop - !!!! I probably throw a cup per ever 4 - 6 square feet or so.
