How much did it cost you to build your chicken coop?

Or 1st coop and run cost us about 600.00 to build. It's a 4x4x6 coop and a 6x16 covered run. Our big coop cost us 250.00, it's a 8x8x8 with a 20x25 ft run. We used alot of recycled materials.

um, have to many to name, prices, but My familys building a house, so i get all the lumber that has nails that the construction workers are to lazy to pull out. so our newst one, cost about 30.00 wire and some screws

I'm thinking recycled is the way to go, looking at how much money alot of you have saved. Lucky! I see some really cute coops! You wouldn't realize some of them were chicken coops just by looking at them!

We figured our first five girls cost $250 each...we don't think they will earn their keep. The first one 4 x 6 with hardware cloth run 6 x 12 and roof over all was about.
My second "bantam" coop is from leftover materials in the garage, we have spent maybe $50 on it...I "hope" the picture will be posted soon...it has turned into a LONG project!

My Dh wanted a piece of art in the backyard. He built this beautiful Japanese Style Pagoda for the hens. No body knows it is a home for hens. Unfortunately it also cost a pretty penny. We stopped counting at $4000. The home is 80 sf and the run is even bigger. The dimensions are 8 X 10 with 8 ft side the go up to a height of 14 ft. We currently have 20 that will eventually be altogether in the house (9 are sectioned off until they get a touch bigger). Our roost are built in such a way that if the girls wanted to they could reach the very top of the house and perch up there while gazing out the windows. Some of our house we did recycle from other projects (nest boxes and roosts{we cut down some small trees and used the trunks} and our brooder is on top of a 55 gallon aquarium stand that we were no longer using) We built it so that if we were to sell and move, this could easily be a childs playhouse or the best looking shed around. My DH also likes to build so he doesn't like to scrimp on things. The hens really like...in fact my polish spend more time inside then they do out. They others go in and out all day.

I need to enter it into the coop contest. It really is gorgeous. I will post pics soon.

We are around $250 for our coop and run. The coop is 8x8, 8' high in the front sloping down to 6' in the back. The run is just short of 6' high, 8' wide and 30' long. The coop will be board and batton with lumber we have here on hand. This coop will hold our 13 chickens, and we will be getting 6 more next spring (since we have 4 roos, that will be culled down to 1). There will be 3 or 4 next boxes.

We have the frame to the building up and we have to get more plywood for the roof and we are ready to go with it. The hardest part is digging the post holes for everything..... Coop has 4x4s in the corners, and the run is stapled to landscape timbers...lots and lots of post holes, in hard shale is hard digging.

1. How big is your coop? 15 feet x 5.5 feet

2. How many birds does it fit comfortably? 18 chickens

3. How much did you pay for it/or how much did it cost you to build it? Around $200

4. Did you have to buy retail for supplies or did you use any free/recycled parts? Used mostly recycled parts but had to buy 4x6x16 skids, 12 sheets OSB, drip edge, and some screws.

5. Post a picture of the outside and the inside. Sorry chickens are camera shy.

My original 8x8' coop cost just under $400 to build, with the use of some recycled materials from construction sites to help with the cost. The 8x12' addition to that coop cost about the same, due to lumber being a bit cheaper when we built that part. The Firetower Coop, a little hexagonal job that is 6 ft across, cost about $60, $20 of that being new paint because I wanted it to be a particular color. Here they are, the original, the original with its addition and the Firetower.
