How much do you think you are saving with chickens

Sold a couple of juveniles yesterday for 20 each I figure it cost me about 30 to get them there so I cut my losses by 2/3rds. I have never figured that this hobby saved me anything but my sanity. And truth be told more than likely simply justified my insanity.

Keep as few as you can hold yourself to and you will control expenses, but save money, not likely

Chickens are supposed to SAVE you money???

If your just in it for a couple dozen or so eating egg's..Your not saving nothing ! LOL.Sorry.If ya in it for the hobby you better be prepared for the expense and work.I loved gettin fresh egg's to eat but had to branch out and start breeding to sell and hatching egg's to cover the cost and it's a snowball effect lol.Back going on my 7th season this year:D.I went from NO Birds Dec. 24th to 60 ncluding chicks and 10 new duckling's so far. It's an Addiction I tell ya:barnie.LOL

well, my chicks are only two weeks old, but unless they grow up to lay solid gold eggs I will never recoup the cost to get started. I had to put in a big gate across the last open part of my yard which cost several thousand dollars, I am building my own coop and materials cost close to $900 and I ordered chicks from MPC and the shipping was more than the chicks - but I got the mix of breeds I wanted.

So - I definitely won't be saving money with this little adventure. But the experience for my kids (and to be honest for me too) - priceless.

nothing!!! My husband won't let us eat the eggs....I buy chicken eggs from the store. Crazy huh with about 150 chickens in the back yard. He won't even let me eat a rooster.

Maybe I will eat the silkie eggs or goose eggs.
