How much do you usually pay for hatching eggs?

This probably wouldn’t be until sometime next year but I’m thinking about getting hatching eggs from a local hatchery next spring/winter but they seem extremely expensive. They charge $45-80 a dozen without shipping Buff Orpington and RIR eggs are $60 a dozen! Is this normal?
What hatchery? That sounds pretty high. Unless the birds are incredible quality.

Chick A Dee hatchery. I’ve been looking at hatcheries in my state because if I’m going to pay for hatching eggs I don’t want to have to worry over them getting damaged in the mail.
Oh. Well, hatching eggs getting shipped from anywhere will almost definitely get damaged to some extent in the mail. Even driving to pick up the eggs yourself, you risk getting detached air cells. If the eggs are packaged well, they should be ok. I'd look for somewhere near by (within a few states' radius or so) with cheap eggs and try those. You don't want to spend so much on eggs of very common breeds just because they're in your state. I don't mind getting eggs from further away as long as they're reasonably priced. I would never get eggs that were more than $60 even if they were in the same state.

Yes I certainly don’t want to pay that much for eggs. I could just get day olds from cackle again for that much.

I think that this is ridiculous, as neither BO's nor RIR's are a rare breeds and the quality of hatchery breeds has room for improvement, to say the least.

Commercial hatcheries sell eggs for far more than they're worth because it's considered special to hatch your own eggs. They know it, it's really just a way to make some extra money.

For those ones, I'd pay maybe 2 per egg tops. However other breeds I have my eyes one I'd be more than happy to pay 10-15 an egg. One breed I'm watching is currently 30 an egg before shipping
