50# bag of Flock Raiser -- $13.89 (TSC)
50# bag of Layena -- $12.49 (TSC)
5# bag of oyster shell -- $5 (anywhere)
5# bag of black oil sunflower seeds -- $3.89 (Fleet Farm)
5# bag of cracked corn -- $2.39 (Fleet Farm)
50# bag of supposedly 'organic' grain from a dubious independent retailer -- $16.99 (I'm sure it's ancient and moldy!!)

Personally I don't mind paying these prices because we only have 3 hens and even a 5# bag of <whatever> will last for months, so it's a pretty good deal for our very small flock. I'm sure if I had dozens of birds I'd be looking elsewhere!

North central Florida. I drive up to Lake Butler, north of Gainesville. Its a ride for me, about an hour, but I get about 300# of layer and 100# of starter, which lasts me about a month, so its well worth the trip (plus I get to shop in Gainesville, which is fun).

halo,
I live in south alabama about a 6 hour drive from Gainsville. We're looking for a quick vacation for my husband and I and the little ones (2 kids under 4). Do you think Gainsville would be a nice place to visit? We're always looking for somewhere new and relatively close to go. We like museums, state parks, ice cream shops and small towns (and, of course, feed stores with good prices!).
If you like the same, you should check out Fairhope, AL. It's where we live and it is beautiful!!! It was voted best small town in Alabama. We love it (and, no, i don't work for the board of tourism).

I was just comparing feed at a local supply store here. I was mainly looking at protein content variations but I did notice all Purina line was around 15.00 for 50# with the Nutrena line coming in around 11.00. I don't think I remember any being less than 10.

Theres a lot to see and do in FL, and not all surrounds the beaches. Gainesville is a college town, has the Museum of Natural History, which is interesting.

Im always looking at small towns, Ill have to check out Fairhope. I love love love small rural towns.

50lbs of gamebird grower for $11.50, and on the advice of some folks here that's the only stuff i've used from hatch until now...8 weeks.
