How much does it cost to feed a trio for a year?

I'm trying to figure out how much $$ I will spend on feed for a year. Really what I'm after is : to breed my own, or buy the poults for processing. Sorry if this is a repeat; couldn't find it in the archived posts.

Depends on what you feed them, how much the feed cost, what breed you have, if they freerange ect. Most of my penned heritage trios will eat a 30lb hanger in about 2 weeks. I feed a 20% layer that today costs $11.72/ 50lbs but who knows what it will be next week due to the government using up the corn for fule that burns too fast and cuts your MPG's and diesel now $4.10/gal! Everything runs on diesel from the tractor that planst and harvests to the truck or ship that brings everything everywhere.

It is much cheaper to buy poults and raise to processing age then try to hatch and raise poults from your own birds. You wil most likely get a better product initially as well. You can easily spend several hundred dollars or more on just the initial set up to feed and house the birds. They only lay seasonally which means a long winter feeding birds that will not produce eggs except during breeding season. If going after meat you will want to consider BB birds (commercial production birds) they put out the most meat in the shortest time (cheapest to grow) they have great personalities as most turkeys do but are not long lived without constant monitoring of diet. I apologize I have no costs on feed as i have a large mixed flock of chickens and turkeys but i would say my 5 turkeys go thru 50 lbs in a couple weeks supplimented by bugs (free range) treats (BOSS,scratch, bread, veggies) and sometimes left overs (not often) I actually think they eat less than the chickens. I hope this helps.

I just started in turkeys too. I don't know your answer, but thought I would just say hey and welcome on the turkey wagon.

22% Turkey Grower Pellets jumped $1 from $15 to $16 per 50lb bag last time I was at the feed store about 3 weeks ago.

My grain prices have been rising in fits and spurts; I'm a little worried about being able to feed everyone if I add to my flock. Thanks for all your answers. If anyone else has info please post. Thanks.
