I know it is different in each area, but how much do you pay for your custom mixed feed, say per pound or 100 pounds, or however they price it.

I would love to get an average, just for an idea of the expenses we would run into if my cousin and I were to get some meaties.

Mines about $191 for 1000 lb of starter its 23%. its a recipe that the coop I go to created for me, its good for chicks, broilers and turkeys. the price includes a grinding fee

A price for layer is hard to figure I take in my own corn and I get 1500 lb at a time

Do they have recipes or would they look at me like I was crazy if I went in and asked for custom feed? I feel like they would say, "umm, just go get that bag over there."

If they need me to bring in a formula, does anyone have one? Pretty please?

No wonder MI birds are $1.99/lb.

I use organic feed so I realize I'm paying more. Retail the 50lb bags are $22.98. I called the mill and asked about picking it up direct and they still said they only sell it in 50lb bags for $18.50. The mill is a 2 hour drive each way so I'm not sure it's worth the trip to save about $40 per batch as I would then have to store it somewhere.

Oh and organic, pastured chickens run about $3.99-4.50/lb. around here!

It depends on your mill. At mine, they would grind anything I wanted. They have a poultry mix on file, which I used, but the protein is 20%, and I have them bump it up to 22. If you have a decent mill, as opposed to just a feed store, they should be able to handle it. At the very least, they won't look at you like you're crazy- now, ask the same thing at TSC, and they would probably just direct you to the bagged feed.
