I'm keeping my two Buff Orpington roosters in separate small pens this winter, to give the hens a chance to recover and re-feather. Each boy gets a walk on alternate days in the evening, when the girls free-range.
My question is, what quantity of feed do they need when penned up? With free choice, they were obviously getting out of shape. I had heard "just a handful", but that leaves them awfully hungry. I keep 16% layer feed and mixed-grain scratch.
