I was just wondering how much chickens will eat and drink. I will be getting around 25 soon and am wondering how much water they will drink in a given day or week and how much food they will go through in a given day or week.

I have 13 chickens, and in the winter, they are eating about 5-6 lbs of feed per day plus treats (scratch, rice, oatmeal), and a gallon of water or so.

If you free range they'll eat less feed because they'll be eating bugs and stuff, but I think the average is 1/3 of a pound of food per day per med/large breed bird

They will eat more lay food in the summer and more corn in the winter.
As for water, they drink alot of CLEAN WATER, It would be best if you looked at the learning pages for the plans on an automatic water system. It will save you from carrying the water and having to check it three or four times per day.

My 47 in the main flock went through 10 gallons of water everyday in the summer, about that much every 2 - 3 days now that it is cold. The feed is about the same 12 lbs a day plus all the extras I give them which is alot. also they have free choice scratch grains. in the winter they get a daily ration of plain cracked corn to help keep them warm.

They eat alot. LOL
