I'm going to take my extra pullets to a trade fair this weekend. They are about 12 weeks or older. How much should I ask for them?
I have Plymouth White Rocks, Salmon Faverolles and Light Brahmas.
Between buying chicks for 4-H and picking up minimum purchases on particular breeds, we have almost too many (46!!!) egg layers!
It's taken a lot of consideration to thin our flock. We had 12 different breeds/varieties of egg layers to work through.
I also will be parting with a Egyptian Fayouma rooster
and a Silver Phoenix rooster.
And then there is a pullet and rooster white Cornish Bantam pair, and a lovely little Black Cochin Bantam.
What do you think? They are worth their weight in gold, but I suspect nobody will pay that much....
I'd keep them all but they go through 125lbs of feed a week.
Granted the egg sales DO help on the feed bill.
We are new to 4-H this year and in most of the poultry classes the birds have to be the current year's hatch. We always kept our birds 'til they died of old age... How do other 4-H'rs do that and get new birds every year?
Sorry about the rambling post, thanks for any help!
