how much hay for 3 chickens?

I just read and looked at the link, and all the information about the hay( including the review). I would say this hay would work just fine for your three chickens! Now, it depends on your coop size, so depending on that will depend on how much you get. Knowing that this is only for a week, I wouldn’t stress too much about it. Use your best judgement on how much you need! :D

If you are planning DL in coop, what is the exact size of your coop, L x W x H? Generally, DL works best if you have a walk in style coop. If it's a short coop, you will have very limited success.

Also, for DL to work successfully, it needs to be a mixture of materials in both size and material. I use a combination of leaves, grass clippings, and hay in my coop. I also add some fresh garden weeds or herbs occasionally.

I can't tell you if that hay is a good buy or not. I would be outraged to pay that much for such a puny bag of hay. I pay $3 - 3.50 for a bale of hay. I believe it's a 40# bale. Are there any farms near by where you can buy direct from the farmer?

How many birds are you keeping, what do you have available for storage? You might look into stock piling your hay by the bale. I purchase a truck load at a time, and use it in coop, run and garden.

bales can also be used for a bit of shelter in the run. I like hay in the run too. I pile it up, they scratch it down, I make mini haystacks, and when it snows, I flip the hay on top of the snow. This is perfect for mulch for my garden come spring.

I too, would find an agriculture store. Much more reasonable than a pet store.
