How much is enough?

I have three bantams and I'm still learning things about chickens from this site everyday. Do most of you have those automatic feeders, so they can eat whenever they like or do you feed on a schedule. Also, if you feed on a schedule, how much should I feed my 3 to keep them healthy? Hi, I put out feed in one of those feeders. They eat whatever they want. I have it in the coop

I fill the feeders every morning. I let them eat whatever they want, when they want. You should never ration your chickens feed. The treats can be rationed of course, but keep those feeders full!

Does having the food in there at all times affect egg laying? I've been told by a few old timers around here that if you feed too much, the hens will stop laying.

they eat what I give them in the early morning hours and I do give scraps during the day .


I give leftover cooked rice , bread , even gave them 2 heads of raw cabbage this morning around 10:00 AM . I broke up some of the cabbage and through the remainder of the heads inside . They went nuts picking on the heads . ENTERTAINMENT I GUESS . LOL
Other than that , I do refill their feeders about 4:30 - 5:00 PM and when its time around 7:30 PM . to lock them inside of the coop , they do not eat again until next morning .

Putting food in coop only attracts flies and makes them POOP alot more on their fresh pine shavings . They poop enough already when they are roosting in the coop . LOL
