How much land do you free range on?

Quote:
I have to laugh at myself. We have a twin house on a total of 1/10th of an acre.....and I feel like I'm queen of the prairie! We moved out of the city, from a 12 foot wide double trinity (a little 1820 house consisting of three rooms-one per floor- and a basement, stacked vertically), with a 12'x4' back yard that still had the brick-lined privy-pit visible. So my four girls free-range on about 1/20th of an acre and love it. I guess neither they or nor we know any better!

It's all relative!

40 acres. (but no mule..) they roam on about 2-3 acres of that. Mainly because that's all that's cleared and they don't go very far into the woods.

eta-that is for 22 chickens

I have 3 and they range all over my tiny backyard. The yard is small to start with, but I have a pool with a safety fence around it, so it's really just a ring of yard. It seems to be enough. They range about a bit, then either all smash themselves up against the back of the door on the patio or in this one bush by the shed.

They also always come on the patio to poop. I think that's a chicken thing.
I think they probably poop a ton everywhere but it seems like all chickens like to poop on patios.

Six acres, but they don't use all of it. Our property has an acre that is mowed, where our house, yard, garden and two coops are, then it's surrounded by woods. So the chickens mainly hang out near the rear of the house and just into the edges of the woods. My neighbors, who I can just barely see through the woods, told me that my hens go over and visit them, and they just love it! (WHEW, I'm lucky)

We have about 34 acres, 12 of which is wooded. There's a sideyard-type area that's about 2 acres cleared in the middle of the woods (where our house is). The chickens stay primarily in that 2 acres, with maybe another acre added on for their run, the driveway, and the short distance into the woods they go.

ETA: Oops, I guess it's for just 34 chickens.

Still, they don't go far.

We're on 68 acres of pasture and woodland. They tend to use the 10 acres closest to the house, either open pasture or the wooded portions... They tend to go where the cows are (within the 10 ac spot), plenty of cow poop for them to scrounge around in

Right now, we've only got a dozen free ranging chickens, and about 15 ranging guineas.
