How much light does the coop need to have or not for chickens to lay ??

How much natural light should chickens have if i dont plan on encouraging more laying during the winter?

The vents i have right now let enough light to move around in, i'm just wondering if it would be worth it to put some plexiglass in more for their happiness/wellness, not so much for making them lay more.

The larger vents may be closed in periods of extreme weather, i have read a lot about vent requirements, just dont want them to be blanketed in darkness all winter if it will bother them

Thanks!

Hi I'm Dawn, and I am new to keeping chickens. I have 10 hens and am in love with them all. I also have been wondering about the light situation. At night my girls get all weirded out if I shut the lights all the way off. I've been reading posts about it and I was wondering if they see very well at night and that might be why they freaked out. Any ideas?
