Anyone know how much longer we need to quarantine our flocks against Avian influenza?
I'm in Michigan.
When did the wild birds stop migrating?
I found nothing on this.

Michigan does not appear to be hit very hard according to this Government site.

Go there and read up on areas close to you,, and then decide.
I just entered Michigan, and this is what came up.

That is almost 3 weeks ago, and nothing newer updated in Michigan.

WISHING YOU BEST,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, :highfive:

Generally speaking, 3 weeks after the last sighting of migrating birds.

But that does not take into account local birds who may have been infected.

Check out your area for local birds. Do you see some that look sick or lethargic. have you spotted dead song birds around. If so contact your state to check them out.

Now if it was me, and I breed some really endangered chickens, I am waiting a full month after the last of the geese migrate by. I live 7 miles from the largest lake in my state. I've been watching the local birds and they seem healthy, as much as I can tell without catching them and examining them that is.

so for me, my flocks will get to go outside again after the 21st of this month.

Of course all this could grind to a halt if I find a dead bird that the death was not caused by predation until I ship it to the state lab and gets clearance.

I let mine out over the weekend. It's been 4 weeks since any detections in CT & I thought it was time. I didn't take down any of the provisions I put up just in case.

& I haven't seen any migrations going on overhead in quite some time.

I noticed a few more counties in MI are now on the APHIS website for flocks culled due to avian influenza this past week. I have my hens under tarps with bird net around perimeter and will keep them there until I see no more cases in Michigan or Northern Indiana for at least a month.

Michigan people, stop by the Michigan thread to say hello and chat.

Of course we're talking about AI (and other things), and this is where I look to see if anyone I know has had to deal with this personally. It's too close for comfort, but SO FAR we have been spared.

We're also having a potluck/picnic on June 25, and you are welcome to attend.

This thread has info from all over, not just SC.
