In my coop i have sand, tho admittedly its not much i do need to add some more bags. But how much pdz should i add? Only bought 1 bag of pdz. Their coop is about 10x10. No poop boards as of yet if that helps at all lol

Ty :)

Nah it wasnt hard at all. I made a big pooper scooper out of a plastic pitchfork and hardware cloth. And compared to what i do for work, it was a walk in the park and relaxing to boot :)

Added some pdz dont know if i added the right amount or not lol and added another bag of sand. So they definitely have enough litter on the bottom now.

Added some scratch feed for them, lots of grit and some fresh greens :) 20190530_183057.jpg 20190530_183436.jpg 20190530_190808.jpg

Yeah I think it is 1/2" and i just started, first time was tonight. As for the bedding (sand) the chicks have been outside for about....2 weeks give or take so its all pretty new/fresh. Why?
I pave driveways, so sifting sand vs raking blacktop is cakewalk :)

I would think most the chick poops would go right thru 1/2" HC.
Do you have older birds too...or are these your first chickens?

IME, from using sand/PDZ mix in a brooder and sifting poops with window screen sized holes, is that eventually(after 2-3 batches of chicks) the sand became saturated with pulverized poop dust and stunk to high heaven.

@aart I assume this comment means that you only use PDZ on the drop boards?

@jthornton PDZ only?

Yep, pretty much.
I still use a sprinkling of PDZ in the brooder under paper towels, but only keep chicks in brooder for about a week after hatch before moving them out to coop. Then, when I break down brooder for the season, that PDZ goes out to be used on poop boards.
