I have a mixed flock. Included in this flock (that all range together) I have a light brahma cockerel among many pullets that will only get around 5-6lbs when ready to breed. Is it okay to breed a 12lb rooster to a 6lb hen? Is there a general guideline for roo size vs. hen size? Just curious.

No general guideline.
Roosters will go after anything that moves with a fuzzy butt!

Haha! Well that's good, I wanted to breed him to some of my medium size girls. I guess I was just worried that the embryo would grow too large for the eggshell? That might be silly of me, I just have no experience in the egg department

I've had chickens for a year, and no eggs! My first batch I got last July and we had a sweltering hot summer here in AR. The chicks that didn't die all turned out to be roos except one, so I just sold her to an acquaintance so she wouldn't be lonely. Now I have a new batch at 12 weeks.

Hens are routinely covered by roosters twice their weight. Ya just gotta watch out for injuries and catch them before they get serious. That seldom happens, but it is a possibility. No problems with the embryo.......Pop
