I am building a coop in a large pole barn for my 18 white leghorns (6 are 6 weeks old and 12 are 4 weeks old). What dimensions would you guys use? I am thinking 16 X 8? Also, how many nesting boxes should I install?

The recomended space in the coop is 4sq feet per bird. So that's 72sq feet. A coop 6x12 would be fine. But.... if you go 8x16 you'll have room for more later. I go with 1 nest box for every 3-4 hens and it works great! Good luck and post pics of your coop!

white leghorns are very active birds. It is good to let them forage some if you can. They will run back to the coop if threatened. I use 2 feet per bird but they aren't in the coop except at night.
