how much space per chicken

I need something big enough for 30 chickens and two turkeys how would that translate into width and length? It will be a hoop coop, I only plan on 20-25 chickens but I want room for flock growth and enough space they can stay in the hoop house for a day if needed.

if ur gonna have 30 chickens then ull need a bit of room

does anyone know how much room i need for a cockerel

if anyone know then plz say

Way off topic, but don't get a goat to keep the lawn clipped. Goats should eat forage - brush, weeds, woody shrubs - grass is not really a good diet for them, if you want the lawn clipped, you want sheep.

If it's just a rooster it would be about the same for a chicken, I've never heard anything different.
Are you sure?my cockrels twice the size of my warrens so id class him as 2 hens but he dont move about that much

compared to the hens.

Latest decision on coop / run / hen house size for our 1st flock of chicks due to arrive the week of 4/9/14 (7 hens will reside in the coop):
* Overall size of coop / enclosed run = 13' x 5.3' = 69 sf (a hair short of 10sf/hen)
* Hen house = 4' x 5.3' = 21 sf (3 sf/hen)
Beyond the enclosed run where they can enjoy their daily shenanigans at 10 sf/ hen they will also have supervised access to an extended open-air run when we are outside with them / roughly 15' x 25'.

And beyond that the entire backyard as a whole which is roughly 54' x 54'.

I will sleep with peace of mind knowing how much space they have ;)

Generally you'd want to give your chickens as much space as possible. Give a 2x2 ft square for each chicken, which gives them plenty of room. For bantams, you might want to go a little smaller than that.

Hi there, I am just starting this endeavor and I have to build a coop asap, but trying to figure out how large I have to make it. We have our run all fenced in, will be covering it with netting to keep out hawks and the like, We have about 600 square feet of run, and in it we need to build the coop, We shouldn't have any more than 10 chickens at any given time. I am trying to figure out how I need to build the coop, minimum size, and how we will clean it and how cheaply I can come up with materials, if I need to make the whole coop on 2ft stilts with hanging food, and water inside. We don't have super cold winters this last year being a 80year low with a 3 F degree day. Any help would be appreciated, Borrowing a post hole digger to put in a post for the door of the run, and any supports I need. (one wall will be shared with a freestanding garage) and I got another two 4"x4"x8''s.

Here is where our chicks are currently in the house, and the run they will be in, (once it is secured)
