how much room would be required in a coop that houses 15 standard chickens? There is a 20X20 run and they free range about half the week.

The general rule is 3-4 square feet of coop space per bird, so about 45-60 square feet. It may change depending on your general geographical location, though. If you have harsh winters for example, you'll want more than the minimum coop space because they'll likely spend more time inside.

There are a lot of different factors involved, you can follow the link in my signature below to see some of my thoughts. As a minimum I'd look at an 8' x 8' walk-in (I'm assuming that run is in feet, not meters). I'd go with four nests and two 8' roosts across the width.

For that many chickens I think you need a walk-in. Most building materials come in 4' and 8' standards dimensions so you can build a coop with minimal cutting and waste if you plan well. An 8' x 8' gives you room to move in there and some flexibility if you need to change things around some. We usually do.

I don't know your goals, expected flock make-up, climate, if you will integrate new chickens into your flock at a later date, many things I don't know. In some cases bigger might be better but as a minimum 8' x 8' might fit you well.

8x8 would work, and 12x8 would be better. The extra space wouldn’t cost that much extra, depending on what style coop you build, and would allow for chicken math (believe me, it’s real).

I’m only asking because chicken math is currently in full swing lol. I have 6 Pullets (1 cockerel who is leaving soon) and I really wanted to get some new girls so I’m planning everything out. Thank you!!

OK, 'fess up ....how big is your coop now? ;)

Most important...what is your climate and how well protected is your run from predators and weather?

Where in this world are you located?
Climate is almost always a factor.
Please add your general geographical location to your profile.
It's easy to do, then it's always there!
