How much starter will chicks eat?

ok, so I am new to chicken raising. I am wondering how much chick starter I should buy when I get 12 chicks. They are supposed to stay on it until they are about 6 weeks then start feeding finisher crumbles, right? Would I use up a 50 lb bag?

We got our chicks(15 of them) a little over 2 weeks old and at 6 weeks they only had a bit left of a 50lb bag. They eat a ridiculous amount and we had them on grass every day too.

You can change them to Grower at 6 weeks, if you wish, but you also just leave them on Starter/Grower until point of lay.
OH YEAH!!! Get a 50 pounder. No sense getting itty bitty bags.

Yeah, there won't be much, if not any, left in a 50 pond bag by the time the chicks get to 6 weeks. And even if you do have some left, you can just mix it in with the layer pellets until its gone.

Also don't forget they will dump and waste a bunch of it.

I have 26 birds that arrived on Thursday and cant believe how much they eat! I shoulda gotten a bigger bag than 50 pounds!
