By the time I get home and collect eggs they are usually cold to the touch, Is it then too late to put them in an incubator or do I have to get them while they are still warm and just laid? Or how long do I have to get them into the incubator if the egg is cooled off...?

Up to 10 days or so, then the fertility drops off pretty markedly.

Eggs do not need to be kept warm to start to incubate them. They won't beging to develop UNTIL they are incubated, and that means the constant 99.5 degree temp for 21 days.

Heck, millions of fertile eggs are shipped all over the place, and often with cool packs to keep them cool during shipping!

Thanks gryeyes! Btw, I checked out your page some time ago and loved the imperfect coop, it adds lots of character and nice flock!
