Hey all!

I’m about to build a 4x4 coop in north FL. How much ventilation is needed for a coop that size?

I was thinking two vents up near the top of the coop about 1x2 ft on the east and west side and a window about the same size on the south side.

First time building a coop so I am open to your expertise! Flying blind over here :) Thanks!

Blanket statement for a hot humid location like FL (correct me if I'm wrong), go with an open air design, with at least 1 wall open for ventilation, possibly more.
Sorry, but could you elaborate on that? What do you mean when you say "one wall open"?

This with very large overhangs on the roof to protect from the rains.
One more question: does anyone have a picture of this with the roofing?
Is that just a large slanted roof coming off the top If so, about how long is the roofing?

Thanks again!

You could do something like this poster, but on a much smaller scale.

Very nice example! Obviously bigger than what OP had planned, but similar idea. If faced correctly (i.e. not into direction of your prevailing winds), the roof and other walls should be sufficient to protect the roosting and nests from getting rained on. Even if a little rain gets in, it should dry pretty quickly.
