How much wood do you use for a season?

Well, it hasn't gotten THAT cold here yet, but we've used about a pickup load full already. I'd say we'll need at least 5-6 cords for the whole winter. That's on the list of things to do tomorrow. Tarp off a section of porch and start piling wood! We're really behind this year, but we've been really busy with the 'new' old house. It was built in 1900 and it's 700 sq ft.

North Eastern LP of Michigan - With constant work over the last 8 years on this old house we used 17 face cords last year and are hoping to cut that to 15 this year....but have 20 ready to burn just in case. No other heat source for 3 years.

I started to answer the how much wood question with a smart alecky answer like "it depends on what I'm building", but I won't.

We burn 3 cords of wood give or take usually per winter depending on how severe a winter and cold snap! We bank our fire at night and the furnace does not kick on til night fall and its set at 60... Have enough stored and put away for 5 years in advance! We order wood now by the log truck load and cut all summer long on cool mornings and stack.

Has saved us thousands in heating bills over the years.

We burn 3 cords between now and March 1st. I absolutely refuse to turn on the heat until the first snowflake falls. We have a burning stove in an older home, but I close off the main rooms with blankets and tell the kids to put on more clothes.
Cheep Cheep Cheap!!
I hate to give my hard earned money to the UI Comp.
