How much would my neighbors really hate me?

If you told your neighbors that you wouldn't get any roosters and then you keep one, you at least need to talk to them again and explain it. At least that's what I would do.

Yes, I know its your property but to keep the cohesiveness of the neighborhood, I would do it.

I have 9 roosters so far. They spout on and off all day long. They have crowing contests, I swear! LOL I don't have any neighbors near me, have 2 acres of cleared land and am surrounded by 35 acres of woods.

BTW, I LOVE to hear my roosters crow....well except at 3am! UGH! LOL

Why don't you just tell the about your predicament? Quite possibly, they do not realize sexing is only 90% accurate. Surely it would help if you explained you ordered all females but the hatchery did not cooperate. Maybe all of you could come to a let's-see-how-it-goes sort of agreement. Especially if you added that you had already become fond of them all and really didn't want to give a pet away.

Good chance your roo will be less annoying than the dog, to all of you.

It's not that you did not keep your word. You tried. It just didn't work out the way you planned.

If I were your neighbor I would not appreciate a crowing rooster unless your chickens are situated where the sound is muffled. My neighbor across the street has roosters. They are behind her house and barns. Not a problem. Great people. Nothing worse that a noisy rooster that keeps you up at night. (Been there) For me it's a matter of sanity. Sorry....

I agree with ddawn. You did promise you wouldn't keep any roosters, but if your neighbors see the chickens they may very well like them themselves. I would at least talk to your neighbors about the roosters before getting rid of them.

Maybe you could explain it to them and try it for awhile. You never know what kind of rooster you will get. Could be a mellow guy or a really irritating one. People that have the idea that they would hate a rooter crowing sometimes actually enjoy it very much. If there are any issues after a trial period, then you could rehome it or whatever...

I have chickens and no rooster. If a neighbor had a rooster that kept me from sleeping, I would be very upset.

I like my chickens, but I love my sleep.

Sounds like you should make an anonymous call to the city to check on code if you're not 100% about the rules. You'd hate to have the rooster blow your cover and get a surprise visit from a zoning official.

BTW, I'm in the city and I think I might get a little peeved to hear a rooster at 4 in the morning. During the day, who cares, but you can't control them... My neighbors love the hens and visit them regularly, but they might not be so endearing if they were noisy.
