how much would you expect to spend

How does the "rat zapper" work? I don't think we have weasels, minks, etc. We do have fox, coyote and raccoons... But the barn the coop is in is only 30 feet? from house, so far I haven't noticed anything up by the barns... But my farm dog died a month or two ago and the rats started... I got a new pup but it will be a bit before he earns his keep...

this is the one i got:

its basically a tunnel that the rats/mice/etc crawl into to get peanut butter (which you put through holes at the end while the zapper is OFF). you put the PB in and then turn on the unit and place in a dry area. they stand on one metal plate, and on when their little tongues lick the PB it completes the circuit and they get a nice powerful long zap that kills them instantly. taaadaaa!

have bantam chickens so i had to make sure that they couldnt get into it, but naturally rats are sneaky and devious and still get to it, no matter what chicken proofing i do!

i put it inside of a large milk crate with a small tarp over it and a piece of chicken wire simply placed around it. the unit stays dry. the rats get zapped. chickens stay out. problem solved!
