How much would you trust a first time broody?

Don't take my experience with her to reflect on your broody. My RIR was always off. She didn't seem fully committed, but did sit for a week before I gave her eggs. She never talked to them, and would not get upset when I removed her from the box to eat.

I am not sure it would be wise to trust her with a dozen purchased eggs though, I would feel better knowing at least some were being incubated, where we have had quite good success in the past.

Since you've successfully incubated, it would be a good test with shipped eggs to see who has the best success.
