Hello everyone! I am a teenager and in love with my chickens. The story goes: It was March and I was at the local farm and auto store looking at the baby chicks. I wanted one so badly but here you have to buy 4 at the minimum and I knew my mom would never let me have four chickens! But it was worth a shot and I called and asked if I could get some. After some persuading and a long phone call my mom gave in and I came home with four Rhode Island Reds; Flo, Viera, Alice and Bumb Foot. Bumb foot died after about a week, she was named because she had a black foot. Alice also had a black toe, but it ended up falling off and now she has one less toenail! The three girls grew up in my garage before moving to a big coop on the farm where I live now. After settling in, some family friends asked if I would "chicken sit" their two chickens and the neighbors 2 chickens for the winter since we can easily insulate our coop and it is set for 30 chickens so we had plenty of room. So over came Mildred a barred rock, Gertie, Spike and Hennie (not sure their breed). After falling in love with Mildred, the family friends asked if we could keep their 2, Mildred and Gertie. So our flock was up to 5 after winter. Then spring came around and the chicks were available again so home came Blair, Tootie, Jo, Natalie and the head of their flock, Edna. It took about 3 months of back and fourth to get the two flocks to like each other but finally they are getting along! Our flock is at 10 and they are all beautiful chickens! We have white eggs, brown eggs and bluish-green eggs.
