I picked up 2 Barred Rock pullets about a week ago. One had a bigger comb than the other but no red yet and it's baby wattles are pink. They are about 2 1/2 weeks old. Could the hatchery be wrong???

Oh no

Out of a bin of about 15 "pullets" I just had to pick the one that is a boy??? Is it possible for the girls to get pink early?

I picked two out of pullet bin last year and both were roos-First time for me with chickens too.
So, yes it does happen!

Just remember too that if you're "picking out of a bin", then you are also subject to those customers who pick up from the straight run bin, and put back into the pullet bin. It happens more often than you think. But even if you order straight from the hatchery, they can be wrong. Most hatcheries claim a 90% success rate at sexing, meaning that you'll get a roo for every 10 chicks. I ordered 25 and got 1 roo, so I consider my order to be pretty darn good!

I'll get some pics in the morning! They only had one bin of babies and they were all "sexed Pullets". There were Buff orps, Barred Rocks and black Sex links.

I will definitely post some pics in the am!
