how often do you clean your coop and nest boxes?

Quote:
Yeah, they like to pile in together as they are growing up. I too had to cut off access to the nest boxes until they learned to roost on the roosts. We also raised the roosts so they were higher than the next boxes.

4 of them are 3 mths old and then 4 of them are 2.5 mths old. They are a bit too big to be smashed into a nest box but they seem to like it.

Thanks so much for the help.

From the pics, it looks like you have 8 birds in a coop that is maybe 4' x 4', on cedar shavings. There are two problems with that. The coop is not big enough for more than 4 birds, and the cedar is very irritating to a chicken's respiratory system.

I switched to pine shavings awhile back. Those pics are from when it was first built ... before I knew cedar wasn't ok. I am not positive on the size but I believe it is 5 x 5. They also now have a fenced in run and free range most of the time.
