I am going be using a dog kennel as my run with the coop inside. The kennel is 8x10 which will be anchored into the ground with kennel anchors I found at Home Depot. I am getting 3 chickens. I'm planning on building a PVC pipe chicken "tractor" to put them in during part of the day on nice days when it's not too hot this summer (probably in the morning and then they'll move back to the covered run to be in the shade when it's the heat of the day). Will I still need to move the coop and run sometimes? With the kennel anchors I don't really see how I'll be able to move it easily. Does it NEED to be moved? I know they'll end up killing the grass under the run but if they're moving around to a different spot in the yard with the pvc pipe "tractor" they should still be ok since they can still graze? They cannot totally free range. I have a rot-iron fence that they could easily fly over/go through plus I have 2 dogs they'll have to share a yard with. I don't entirely trust my blue heeler (she managed to murder a baby bunny this weekend. she usually gets 1-2 per year) to not go after them so they need to be contained.

I wouldn't move it sounds like the day pen will keep them happy, try a small tarp over the top so they can have a little shade.
