How often do you pump your septic tank?

Been here nearly 30 years. Had to have it pumped last year because we had gone through some dry years here in North Florida and when it started raining again the soil over the drainfield had become very hard and compacted and the water filled up the tank. Now it has adjusted back to normal rain and all is well again!

I think it depends upon whether the state requires it to be run through a treatment plant or not. I paid over $400 in Texas. Here in Wisconsin I've paid $125 and they spread it on fields.

We have a septic mound system and a pump that pumps effluent uphill and injects it into the mound. The pump went out last month. That was a wonderful job to change it out, not to mention the $600 I shelled out for a new pump...

We get ours done yearly. So far, it's been perfect, but DH grew up when a tank went to heck, and it was insanely expensive, but more so, it was in the middle of summer and the stench was AWFUL. Thus, he wants it done yearly.
