How often do you scoop...your poop?

I'm also in the group of people that just does a quick go in daily. It beats the big cakes that build up over a few days. When I do it every day when I bring their breakfast treats out, it takes me only about 30-40 seconds. Then I'm also not embarrassed if someone wants to go out and see them. The poo board is right at an adults eye level.

By the way. My poo board will be getting switched to a counter top remnant soon. The smooth surface should make it easier to keep clean. I use a wide putty knife for scraping poo.

I clean the big obvious poops on and under the bar, on top of the nesting boxed aka the "poop shelf" and the ledge that some fliers can jump up on. Then every month or so I do a big clean. I use a bucket and a kitty litter scooper.

But ask 10 different people and get 10 different answers.

I only have five girls, and I scrape them daily. I don't want poop accumulating on the boards; I would think this would smell and draw flies. I grab my poop bucket, do a quick scrape into it, and it's done. Takes less than a minute for me, maybe two-three minutes for you, since you have more board space I'm sure.

I used to do it daily, that is when they were coop + run, but since they've become free rangers, they don't poop as much in their coop. Strange, but the coop seems to be less messy when they started free ranging all day long, but since I have so many other tasks to do, like ducks, goats, etc, I do it every few days.

You can do it however suits you.

Best air quality (humidity, ammonia, and generalized smell) comes from doing it daily, though.

I do mine every morning when I let the chickens out. It takes literally 10 seconds, just plow the stuff off into a bucket held in the other hand. I keep the lidded bucket in the coop til it is full enough to dump.

Good luck, have fun,

Pat
