How often do you worm your chickens?

That does bring up another point. Having a parasite load on a chicken (or other animal) is not necessarily a bad thing. It's when the animals can't handle the load, you have issues. You should always be monitoring for signs of anemia, in which case get a fecal float to determine what the likely culprit is.

I would not use Valbazen on poultry unless your vet specifically told you to do so.

Also, some dewormers are ineffective against certain parasites (some dewormers don't touch flukes for example). You run the risk of choosing a dewormer which doesn't even work on what is making your animal sick.

Yes, that is true, often people over medicate and over treat flocks just because but really it may cause more harm than good and not really be doing anything for them other than putting a drug load though their bodies. I haven't wormed in 10 years and unless I see that they are getting droopy, probably won't ever worm them.

Thanks to everybody for your thoughts on worming. I was thinking I needed to worm again because one of my pullets was looking like she didn't feel good. This morning when I went to open the coop door, I saw she had a egg hanging on her butt, I got it off (it was stuck) this was her first egg. I pushed the stuff back inside and put hemoroid cream on her. I hope she makes it.
