how often should i dump a large kiddie pool?

Ducks will swim in filthy water if that is all they have, but anyone who's ever seen how they react to nice clean water in their pool would have a hard time saying they prefer poo water over clean water. They don't need "the junk" in the water to be happy.

I agree here! My ducks used to get so excited when I would dump their pool and refill it. They love grabbing at the water as it is coming out of the hose- and when I would fill it fresh, every one of them would quack and flap and run around, then they all would get in. Happy ducks. They love fresh clean cool water.

Not only do my ducks love the fresh clean water daily, it really gets the breeding going.

Probably got tired of green water and went in search of some clean water.

Nope. Actually my ditz of a husband knocked over the pen and the drake flew. The hens remained and walked back to the gaarge where there pens are.

I have two ducks that use a small kiddie pool and i dump it out and refill it every other day. We have a well and a spring and the well is what I use for the barn.

We were dumping a kiddie pool and it finally bit the dust on a hot day. We had a mound of dirt within the duck pen, so my hubby and sons just started digging a pond-shaped hole. They laid a tarp down and lined the sides with flat rocks and that is our pond.

It does take a good deal of water to flush clean, and I try to flush it every day. I plan to cement it in next year. I do wonder about bacteria building up to a high level and I don't let it turn green. My ducks very much prefer to get in when I have just flushed it out and like the clean water better.

My chickens prefer to drink from this duck pond than the clean water container in their coop, go figger, so I figure I have to keep it clean.

My 3 appear to be willing to swim in anything, but they don't get crazy and bath so much after day 1 when the water has started to turn nasty.
I let them out of the kennel this morning and they made a beeline to the pool that needed to be dumped this morning and stood there looking at it and walked away

They did finally decide to hop in and float about until I kicked them out after I ate breakfast and cleaned it for them.
